Q: What is a Continuing Education Unit (CEU)?
A: In the private investigator context, a Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a measure used by a state licensing board to ensure self-development by licensees. Generally, one CEU is defined as 50 minutes of participation in a recognized continuing education program. The amount of time actually spent studying depends on the student’s knowledge, experience and work ethic. Many investigators complete a course in half the time.
Q: What will I receive as evidence of completing a course?
A: You will receive a Certificate of Completion as an attachment to an e-mail. It is sent within seconds after completing a course.
Q: How long do I have to complete a course?
A: As long as you want.
Q: Do I have to complete the course all at once?
A: No. You can log off and log on at will. You can also scroll back and forth within a course.
Q: Are there any tests?
A: Yes. A course has an open book test. During a course you will be asked Progress Questions. They are intended to let you assess your learning as you move through the course. The Progress Questions are not graded. A final test is given that consists of progress questions only. The test can be taken as many times as needed to pass.
Q: What is the passing score?
A: 70 percent. Most learners pass with scores in the 90 percent range.
Q: How long will it take for me to finish a test?
A: Not more than 15 minutes.
Q: What are the steps for enrolling in a course?
A: Go to the Catalog of Courses page; decide which course you want to take, and click on the Add to Cart button. The page that pops up will ask if you want to go back to the Catalog page to select another course or if you want to check out. After you’ve selected all your courses, hit the Check Out button. The next page that pops up will be an enrollment form. If you are a new student, ignore the top part of the form. On the blocks below, enter a Student ID and Password of your own choosing. Fill out the remainder of the blocks and click on the Submit button. You will be taken to the Credit Card page. After that page has been filled out, you will have immediate access to the course or courses you selected.
Q: How do I enroll in a course if I am a former student?
A: When you get to the enrollment form described above, you will see a section at the top of the form. Enter the Student ID and Password you used when you were previously enrolled. If you can’t remember that information, please feel free to contact us at 706 268 2221 or admin@learningshopusa.com or enroll all over again with a different ID and Password.
Q: If I am currently taking a course and want to log back in, how do I do it?
A: On our home page, click on “Returning Students.” On the page that pops up, enter your Student ID and Password.
Q: What if I need help in understanding the course material?
A: Call or e-mail us and we’ll provide the help. In addition, our special software will automatically report your progress to us. If you appear to need help, we will contact you.
Q: If I am licensed in more than one state, can one course satisfy the CEU requirements for other states?
A: Yes. For example, if you have taken a course for credit in Texas, you can send copies of the course certificate to any or all of the other states where you are licensed
